War Memorial

Situated on the summit of Monte Castello, at an altitude of 180 meters, the War Memorial of Arquà Petrarca is a symbol of commemoration for the town's soldiers who fell in the war. The unveiling took place on September 18, 1921, as evidenced by a commemorative postcard published by the National Combatants Association, which recalled the sacrifice of the "sons of Arquà" in words laden with patriotism and spirituality.

The monument

The monument is characterized by a simple and essential form, dominated by a stone obelisk rising on a slightly inclined concrete base. Three steps lead up to the parallelepiped base, on which the names of the war dead are engraved. On the main elevation, the date of construction is visible, surmounted by the municipal coat of arms, while on the top of the obelisk is a bright star.
After 1945, following the World War II, the monument was updated with the addition of the names of those who fell in World War II, following a common practice in many Italian localities.

A place of commemoration and remembrance

The area around the monument is bordered by a chain supported by stone taproots, giving it a sense of recollection and solemnity. In 1980, the Alpini Group of Arquà Petrarca took charge of rearranging and enhancing the adjacent space, erecting a flagpole for the flag raising. The following year, a plaque dedicated to the Alpini was also added, testifying to the strong link between the village and historical memory.
Today, the War Memorial represents a place of recollection and reflection, while also offering a privileged vantage point from which to admire the Euganean Hills landscape, combining the memory of the past with the timeless beauty of Arquà Petrarca.
