Arquà Petrarca: A Journey Through Flavours and Tradition
A visit to Arquà Petrarca is also a journey through the flavours and aromas of its local food and wine traditions. The village is renowned for the quality of its ingredients and the production of excellent products that reflect the area's history and cultural identity.
The Jujube: The Symbolic Fruit of Arquà
Over time, Arquà has become known in particular for the cultivation of a fruit present in the Euganean Hills since Roman times, but truly appreciated only in the 20th century thanks to the work of small local producers. Today, the jujube is one of the village’s iconic symbols.
Even today, many Italians still use the expression “andare in brodo di giuggiole” (literally “to go in jujube broth”) to describe a state of great joy or delight. The phrase refers to a sweet preparation originally made by farmers using jujubes, quince, and muscat or strawberry grapes—now transformed into a renowned local liqueur.
This small fruit takes centre stage at the famous Jujube Festival, held annually on the first two Sundays of October. During the event, the village comes alive with markets, medieval shows, and tastings of jujube-based delicacies such as:
- Jams
- Syrups
- The famous "jujube broth" liqueur
